Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions families ask us most - about our team, our process, fees, and what to expect.
Every child is assessed by our psychologist and speech pathologist as part of a comprehensive autism evaluation. Whether your child also sees one of our paediatricians depends on your referral pathway - if your child has been referred by a paediatrician who already manages their care, that paediatrician's existing input is incorporated into the assessment rather than repeating it with us. If your child was referred by a GP or doesn't currently see a paediatrician, our own paediatrician will complete the medical component as part of the team. Whatever the pathway, our team collaborates closely throughout the process to ensure a thorough and integrated outcome.
Speech pathology is about much more than whether a child can speak. Our speech pathologists assess how your child understands and uses language, engages in conversation, and communicates socially - all of which are core features of autism. A speech pathology assessment is a vital part of a comprehensive autism evaluation, regardless of your child's verbal ability.
Where a paediatrician is part of your child's assessment, they provide the medical foundation of the process. They take a detailed developmental history, review your child's medical background, and assess for co-occurring conditions that are common alongside autism - such as ADHD, sleep difficulties, or sensory processing differences. If your child already has an established paediatrician managing their care, that existing medical picture is drawn on instead, so the same ground isn't covered twice.
The length of an assessment depends on the type of assessment and your child's age and presentation. A full multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental assessment typically involves several sessions with different members of our team, all completed at our Williams Landing clinic. Our administration team will give you a clear overview of what to expect when booking.
Monarch Autism Assessment is a paediatric specialist clinic. We assess children and adolescents. Please contact us to discuss your child's age and the most appropriate assessment for their needs.
All face-to-face assessments at Monarch are conducted in person at our Williams Landing clinic. We believe in-person assessment delivers the most accurate and comprehensive outcomes for children and adolescents, and our clinic is designed to provide a comfortable, child-friendly environment. One of our clinicians may call you by phone ahead of your first face-to-face session to gather medical and developmental history - this helps inform the assessment, though it doesn't replace any in-person sessions.
Once all assessment sessions are complete, our multidisciplinary team reviews the findings together and formulates a diagnostic outcome. You will receive a feedback session, where the diagnostic outcome, treatment options, and management recommendations are discussed with you in plain language. Your comprehensive written report is not provided on the day of your feedback session - it is completed and sent to you within a quick turnaround time afterwards, depending on whether any additional external information is required.
Our reports are designed to be clear and comprehensive, and can support NDIS access requests or plan reviews where relevant. Our paediatricians can also provide supporting medical documentation. Please discuss your specific circumstances with our team.
You can get started by completing our online intake form, or by contacting us directly. Our team will be in touch to discuss next steps and answer any questions you may have.
We aim to see children promptly. While wait times can vary depending on demand, we encourage you to get in touch as early as possible to discuss availability.
